The explosion in information technologytools and capability has accelerated. Our information technology environment is moving at absolute light-speed. Yet, the back of data integration is broken. 90% of customers are using 20-year old ETL technology designed to move batch files into the data warehouse at 1:00 am. It is a manual process. Worst of all, is that some vendors have even put this 20-year old technology in their newly minted 1-year old cloud. Who wants 20-year old technology in a 1-year old cloud?
To add insult to injury, data quality is … “another product.” I humbly submit that without resolving data quality issues and providing for their ongoing maintenance, you cannot integrate even two applications, load your data warehouse, consider a future Virtual MDM deployment.
The cause of this is simple. Look at the revenue mix for the two major vendors that control the market for large enterprise. Their business is about professional services – not software tools. They are in business to sell you, their customer, as much professional services at the highest rates you can imagine. Legacy ETL technology is a bonanza to a company that sells your company services by the hour.
Even worse, they don’t offer you the right mix of services and technology. The integration was done to specification but it doesn’t seem to work. I guess we’ll just have to sell you additional consulting to do the data quality clean-up.
The five best practices in data integration break this model. Queplix turns the model upside down. By using advanced data virtualization, and pushing back at the legacy monopoly attached to your wallet, you can reduce your costs and speed your time to implementation.

@QueplixCorp QueCloud solution on AppExchange - at Queplix booth 43 at the expo df11 - http://bit.ly/q6xcU1
Queplix Quecloud Data Integration and Management Solution Now Available on Salesforce.Com Appexchange, the World?s Most Popular Marketplace for Business Apps
Queplix™ Corp., a leader in data integration and data management, today announced the availability of QueCloud™ on the AppExchange, the leading marketplace for business apps. QueCloud enables companies to quickly and securely integrate Salesforce with cloud and on-premise applications from other vendors including SAP, Oracle and NetSuite. The Queplix solution can reduce the lifecycle total cost of ownership for data integration and management by up to 75 percent, compared with traditional ETL data management tools.
Built using Force.com, salesforce.com’s social enterprise platform for employee apps, QueCloud is immediately available for a test drive and deployment on AppExchange at http://ping.fm/HcUoO
The announcement was made today at Dreamforce 2011, the cloud computing event of the year. Queplix will be in booth 43 in the Dreamforce Expo.
“Customers coming to Dreamforce will have the chance to see how partners like Queplix exemplify the extraordinary reach of the AppExchange marketplace,” said Ron Huddleston, vice president, ISV Alliances, salesforce.com. “Apps like these continue to push the social, open, mobile and trusted capabilities customers expect from the salesforce.com ecosystem.”
The entire data integration process simply involves selecting data to align and defining the business rules. From that point on, QueCloud automation keeps data harmonized without programming or any of the complex widgets and wire diagrams typical with legacy ETL technology. QueCloud also provides automated tools to ensure data quality, essential to integrating customer and product data.
"QueCloud offers a highly automated, turnkey solution that overcomes the challenge IT departments face when working with both cloud and on premise apps,” said Michael Zuckerman, chief marketing officer, Queplix. “Our product helps customers solve the integration problem so their systems can work together for greater business advantage - and at a fraction of the cost and time required with legacy technologies."
Dreamforce 2011 is the cloud computing event of the year. The ninth annual conference will welcome more than 30,000 customers, partners and developers to the new world of the social enterprise. With more than 450 sessions and 250 cloud companies in the expo, Dreamforce offers the content and educational opportunities that enable attendees to tap into the power of the social enterprise.

Partnership with UK NetSuite Provider Expands Queplix Footprint to Europe
SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 10, 2011 – Queplix® Corp., a leader in data integration and data management, today announced that First Hosted Ltd. has joined the Queplix Advantage™ partner program. First Hosted will participate as a value added reseller for QueCloud™ in the United Kingdom. QueCloud enables companies to securely integrate on-premise and cloud applications such as NetSuite®, Salesforce®, SAP®, and Oracle® applications with unprecedented speed and simplicity.
First Hosted, a NetSuite® solutions provider, is adding QueCloud to its portfolio of software solutions to help customers integrate business applications without incurring expensive consultant and IT fees. The increased business efficiency and reduced set-up costs provided by QueCloud will benefit users, particularly as they perform multiple integrations involving more than two applications. “Up until now, companies such as those in third party logistics, would have to pay consultants’ fees spanning into many tens of thousands of dollars for integration with their customers’ business platforms, such as Oracle®, Peoplesoft® and SAP® for example," said First Hosted managing director Andrew Peddie. “QueCloud is automated, quick to deploy and will easily configure common business applications such as Oracle and Salesforce with on-site applications and data like Google®, PeopleSoft® and SYBASE® at a fraction of the typical cost. Adding QueCloud to our range of software solutions allows us to help customers avoid the pain, problems and high cost associated with conventional data integration."
“We are extremely pleased to partner with a UK distributor who has a real understanding of the best practices to cost-effectively integrate enterprise and cloud-based applications," said Mark Cashman, CEO of Queplix. “Our new relationship brings advantage for both organizations as cloud computing gains widespread adoption due to the operational and cost efficiencies it affords. We look forward to a long and productive partnership with First Hosted."
The partnership extends Queplix's presence into Europe and further advances delivery of its technology on a worldwide scale.
"The relationship with First Hosted further validates our advanced data virtualization technology - the horsepower behind our data integration and management solutions,” added Cashman. “We expect to see continued Advantage partner program participation and expansion as companies look to solve their data integration problems more effectively and efficiently. Value added resellers are a very important part of our strategy and we will continue to recruit the industry leaders on a global basis."

Data Integration Study Compares ETL with Next Generation Technologies - http://bit.ly/qY0RFx
While ETL continues to be the predominant data integration technology in use today, the sheer size and complexity of today's information and application systems require new levels of innovation that lower costs, deliver rapid time to value, and put more control into the hands of business users.
A new study by IdealNet, a professional business expertise and technical services company, takes a look at the data integration technology curve, from the 1980s to present day, examining first, second and third generation solutions. It also compares first generation tools such as conventional ETL with newer open source and data virtualization technologies, and includes recommendations as to which technologies would be most appropriate based on an organization's data integration requirements.
The results of the study are captured in a video, titled "An Analysis of Data Integration Technologies." Some of the key findings:
· Informatica is the leading provider of ETL, clearly defines ETL for batch oriented bulk file transfer
· Talend and Pentaho are the open source leaders with associated ETL and BI strategies
· ETL is limited in scalability – each connection is essentially standalone
· Queplix 3rd generation product – leading data virtualization solution, better suited to integrate 2, 3, 4 or more sources
· Unique advanced data virtualization platform provides greater capability, lowers costs
To learn more, see http://bit.ly/qY0RFx.

It is interesting to review all of the market opportunity data relating to master data management. Visible almost immediately is the huge chunk of professional services required for implementation. Upon closer inspection this seems to be a very large percentage of the market. Vendors will tell you, and rightfully so, that all of this is paid for by the cost of a successful project. The return on investment is there. Of course, but this requires a successful and timely completion. However, it is still a large chunk of your cost and manual process also reads risk.
So look closer. There is a closely related but sometimes separately tracked market called (master data management) integration services. That market seems to include an even larger swath of professional services packaged with a few ETL links, extra data storage, and a data mart (or two). In total, when you add this all up, you can see that master data management is mostly about manual processes and human interaction. The software expense feels like, on a very good day, something approximately over 70% of the total expense for initial implementation and likely approaching 80%. The software in that bucket is a small slice of the overall expense. It is all about manual process and people.
If you don't see this expense you are not looking closely enough, IMHO.
Perhaps the costs are, in fact, even higher. My data about expense is all anecdotal. I ask the question and get answers. But most people are not completely sure. The vendor information is somewhat optimistic about implementation time. The industry analysts are a bit more astute, but they tend to leave the integration expense and consulting in another bucket. It is very hard to tell. When all is said and done, no one has likely been able to capture all of the email, conference calls, political wrangling and hallway meetings required to align your data models on a global basis. It is likely far more expensive than you know.
Manual process and human interaction does not scale well. It is not more efficient. It gets less efficient as the number of intermediaries to measure progress and “manage” grow. These resources cost more, raise the overhead and generally slow things down. You have alot of politics to deal with. Politics is the art of getting people to do what you want them to do as a function of influence, not authority. The results are not easily predicted, cooperation is not assured and the goals of the different parties are not in alignment. It should be very clear, especially in the wake of the economic debacle of Q4 2008, that the needs and interests of these groups are focused first on their top goals and objectives. Master data management may not be one of them.
Of course, to make this more difficult, all of this manual process and human interaction involved is distributed far and wide. You are necessarily dealing with people from diverse working groups and these working groups are attached to every line of business, IT team, geographical entity and P&L in your company. The larger you are, the better the return on investment should work for you, the more diverse the interaction you must sponsor. Cooperation is always a function of relationship, and you cannot always build close working relationships over a videoconference line or a conference call. Cooperation does not work well by command, except perhaps in the military. So you need to get on planes and visit your various work groups, at least once or twice. More process and time tied to hours of your time.
Lack of automation is a big problem. Right now everything is wrestled to the ground by committee. Emails and policy statements then flow out regarding data governance decisions. It is all manual process – not much is automated. There is no computer software enforcing and implementing the policies. You may need to scrub the duplicates out and if you do not… nothing happens.
Data governance teams need the same sorts of tools the information security teams have for implementation and enforcement. For example, your password expires and you must change it or you lose access to the system; you cannot install a 3rd party piece of software that is not approved; your email storage is limited in size and in some financial institutions must be auto archived and/or expired depending on the date and regulatory oversight; and so on. Automation needs to support authority but there are no tools, dashboards or automated workflow to tie this to legacy MDM architectures in a meaningful way.

Vision for the Future: The Evolution of the Data Integration Market - http://bit.ly/qY0RFx
One of the major challenges organizations face today is how to bridge applications together in a way that enables true data mobility - integrating critical information across different business functions such as HR, sales, accounting, and customer support, so that all they key components of the organization can be preserved and shared among different application systems to drive greater business value.
A newly released video from Queplix™ called Vision for the Future: the Evolution of the Data Integration Market, provides an overview of first, second, and third generation data integration technologies, as well as the emergence of fourth generation, or Next Generation (NGEN), and the capabilities organizations should expect to see in 2012 and 2013.
The overview points out that, contrary to what most might believe, legacy or first generation ETL (extract, transform, load) technology is still predominantly used for data integration today. Further, many of the early integration cloud vendors are simply hosting 20-year old ETL technology in their one-year old clouds.
In sharp contrast, advanced data virtualization technology is powering third and fourth generation data integration products that represent the next wave. The Next Generation will be driven by a powerful convergence of data integration, management, virtualization, abstraction, persistent servers for automated data quality and governance, cloud and on-premise systems, virtual master data management and more. With NGEN, organizations will achieve true data mobility.

Automating Data Quality: A Template for Data Integration - http://bit.ly/qY0RFx
Keeping data consistent across business functions such as marketing and customer support is essential for the vitality of today's organizations. But when companies need to integrate data between applications, the consistency of data, or data quality, becomes an issue. Basic problems such as null fields, duplicate records, syntax problems, range problems and more, impact data quality and with multiple application sources and master data management, it becomes a complex and expensive problem to solve.
In this video, Michael Zuckerman, chief marketing officer for Queplix™ Corp ., outlines a template for data integration that involves automating data quality processes. This step by step template discusses the essentials of data quality - measurement and review, reporting and remediation, data governance, and data normalization and alignment, whether integrating two data sources or many. A highly automated approach delivers a faster, easier method to maintaining data quality, reducing risk, and improved results.

Technology Evaluation Finds Quecloud? Data Integration And Data Management Cloud To Be Innovative And Well-Suited To Solve Complex Data Integration Challenges
Report Praises Queplix for Innovative Approach to Connecting, Moving, and Harmonizing Data Across Enterprises with High Degree of Automation and Simplicity
In contrast, "Batch oriented bulk data movement ... best served by the traditional ETL model" offered by companies such as Informatica.
SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 28, 2011 – Queplix™ Corp., a leader in data integration and data management, today announced the availability of a report on data integration solutions by IdealNet, a provider of professional business expertise and technical services to some of the world's largest pharmaceutical, medical device, health insurance and financial services companies. The report, An Analysis of Data Integration Technologies, summarizes the findings of an evaluation comparing ETL and open source solutions, and offers recommendations as to which technologies would be most appropriate based on an organization's data integration requirements.
IdealNet has managed numerous data integration software selection projects, including Master Data Management (MDM), on behalf of multiple customers. In order to ensure "current and comprehensive" results for its clients, IdealNet, Inc. expanded the number of possible solutions to be examined during these selection projects, and was "pleasantly surprised at the variety of new and different approaches which have emerged that improve on the ubiquitous ETL model.
The report evaluates product offerings across 59 areas within 11 specific categories, which represent the most common and most difficult segments of data integration challenges faced by companies today:
· Business Application
· Platform Deployment
· Connectivity to Data Sources
· Synchronization
· Transformation
· Data Movement
· Test, Development and Operations Environments
· Data Modeling
· Data Quality and Data Governance
· Architecture
· Standards
Findings and Recommendations: Queplix the Greatest Surprise of All
The report suggests that data integration and movement between two discrete sources can be well served, perhaps with differing costs and implementation models, by all technologies reviewed. Batch oriented bulk data movement is an area which continues to be best served by the traditional ETL model.
However, the report asserts that once an organization needs to integrate disparate data types (relational, object, on-premise, cloud, nosql) or more than two sources, there are compelling incentives for the use of technology other than ETL, and that "this is where the divergence occurs and where the most telling and interesting results reside."
The following summarizes IdealNet's evaluation between established ETL vendor Informatica®, open source platforms offered by Talend™, Pentaho™, and Apatar™, and "new and different solution vendor" Queplix™.
· Large, Established ETL Vendor: According to IdealNet, Informatica® was selected to represent the ETL segment, as it has long been a standard bearer for ETL and, more recently, has expanded its footprint further into the niche MDM area via its acquisition of Siperian®. "As the gorilla of the bunch, this offering suffers from similar issues as compared to any vendor its age, scope, and size. The firm must continue to support a large user base on varying levels of its technology, while attempting to continue to move its products forward simultaneously. While this situation encapsulates recurring revenue streams via long term customer relationships, it can also easily serve to mute the possibility of significant innovation. Based on our examination, we can see that the Informatica® suite of products continues to lead in core ETL specialty areas, but does, in fact lag behind the others within this study in terms of certain key areas of differentiation."
· New and Different Solution Vendor: The report states that, "Queplix undoubtedly provided the greatest surprise of all" and that "the firm has demonstrated a truly refreshing and innovative approach to connecting, moving, and harmonizing data across enterprises. The high degree of automation and the attendant ease-of-use can potentially offer users significant labor and implementation savings over the use of alternate technologies, perhaps on the order of 50 percent or more. If the integration were to involve 3, 4, 5 or more sources, the savings would potentially be much higher. We were impressed with the fact that the technology base of Queplix has so effectively been structured so as to allow the company to rapidly and effectively expand the scope of what can be done with the product. Even some of the most complex and onerous data tasks are handily placed directly under the control of end users via the product’s 'virtual' architecture coupled with a clean and predictable user interface."
"As a partner of industry-leading life sciences and financial services organizations, IdealNet, Inc. is entrusted with having the best knowledge of available technologies to meet its clients' data integration and data management requirements," said Mark Cashman, CEO, Queplix. " IdealNet is certainly well-positioned to make informed, intelligent purchasing recommendations to its clients to ensure their satisfaction and success. We couldn't be more pleased that it found Queplix to be a solution of choice for companies with more complex data integration challenges looking to spend their project dollars more wisely, and avoid long service engagements, manual processes, and the constant wholesale movement of entire data sets."

In order to ensure "current and comprehensive" results for its clients, IdealNet, Inc. expanded the number of possible solutions to be examined during these selection projects, and was "pleasantly surprised at the variety of new and different approaches which have emerged that improve on the ubiquitous ETL model."

Queplix Introduces Data Quality Manager? For Quecloud
The First Data Integration and Data Management Cloud Delivers Advanced Data Quality Functionality with Core Services through a Single Platform - http://bit.ly/k0uXsf
Queplix™ Corp., a leader in data integration and data management, today introduced the new Data Quality Manager™ for QueCloud™, enabling companies to seamlessly create and maintain data consistency throughout the data migration, integration and management lifecycle - all with a single cloud-based platform. Data Quality Manager is also available on-premise with Queplix Virtual Data Manager™. Both products are available today.
QueCloud, the industry's first data integration and data management cloud, securely integrates cloud applications such as Salesforce®, NetSuite®, LinkedIn®, and FaceBook® with unprecedented speed and simplicity. Data Quality Manager addresses the common data quality challenges that create barriers for any data integration effort. As a central component of the QueCloud dashboard, Data Quality Manager is tightly coupled with the solution's core data integration and data management functionality. This is the first time a cloud-based data integration platform service has offered advanced data quality, integration and management in one environment, performing in a simultaneous continuum that eliminates the need to invest in separate tools.
"Today, companies must purchase separate data quality products that run data cleansing exercises in complete isolation from data integration," said Steve Yaskin, chief technology officer, Queplix. "Not only is this more expensive, it's also far less effective since separate products aren't designed to interact with each other. Queplix provides data integration, data management and data quality functionality in a single integration-as-a-service platform. QueCloud and our on-premise product, Virtual Data Manager both now automatically check for and repair inconsistencies as part of the data integration and management process. This saves a tremendous amount of time, money and effort. No other vendor is doing this today."
Data Quality Manager delivers fast, automated and easy access to comprehensive data quality functionality for null fields, duplicate detection, syntax error notification, date range checks and much more in a manner that works seamlessly as part of the data integration and management process. As a result, companies no longer need multiple tools; data is made consistent from the onset of integration, and consistency is maintained throughout the data management lifecycle.
QueCloud is designed for the business user - no SQL programming is needed. The architecture includes a series of intelligent Application Software Blades™ that identify and extract key metadata and associated security information from target applications and move it to the Queplix persistent metadata catalog. Once integrated, data remains easily accessible to any number of additional applications, enabling a high degree of flexibility and scalability. As a result, organizations can dramatically reduce the lifecycle total cost of ownership for data management, by up to 75 percent or more over the cost of a traditional deployment.

Cloud Integration in 2011: QueCloud Ties Cloud and On-Premise via Data Virtualization - http://bit.ly/jiR64S
Integration Developer News posted the following article recently:
Cloud Integration in 2011: QueCloud Ties Cloud and On-Premise via Data Virtualization
Queplix Corp. is shipping its QueCloud integration platform, which uses data
virtualization for sharing data across cloud and on-premise apps. Integration Developer News continues its “Cloud Integration in 2011” series with Queplix CEO Mark Cashman.
By Vance McCarthy
Queplix Corp., a data integration and data management provider, is shipping its QueCloud cloud integration platform. QueCloud is powered by secure data virtualization and metadata technologies, and can integrate multiple on-premise and cloud-based apps.
Queplix is also shipping a tailored integration solution for NetSuite’s SuiteCloud platform, based on the company’s same core technologies.
QueCloud lets companies quickly, easily and securely integrate on-premise data and applications with cloud applications such as Salesforce, NetSuite, LinkedIn, and FaceBook. QueCloud also supports leading on-premise applications including SAP, PeopleSoft, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle CRM, NetSuite and others.
“We have the ability to integrate between the cloud and on-premise, or within either,” Queplix CEO Mark Cashman told IDN. “With MDM (master data management) and [data] harmonization, we know when and where anything is changed in the underlying data structures.”
Driving QueCloud integration capability is Queplix Virtual Data Manager (VDM) data virtualization technology, along with a set of application “blades” or intelligent connectors.
Together, these technologies identify and extract key metadata and associated security information from data stored in applications.
Queplix’ Virtual Data Manager data virtualization technology improves on ETL and avoids SQL programming to virtually harmonize data from diverse on-premise and cloud-based locations.
Queplix blades differ from SaaS connectors found in some cloud appliances because they are multi-directional and can conduct data identification, extraction and integration tasks, Cashman said.
Once captured, information goes into Queplix’s persistent metadata catalog without moving any of the underlying data from its original location, Cashman told IDN. From the catalog, Queplix renders the data easily accessible and shareable to any number of additional applications via the Queplix Engine, he added.
Another Queplix technology attracting attention from data architects is Virtual Data Viewer, Cashman said. The Queplix VDV provides an object-oriented view of a wide range of data formats, including XML, CSV, spreadsheets and RDMBS. Data architects can also see relationships between data and data models used in each format, and even the relationships between different data, he added.
“Data architects eyes popped when they could understand where all their data was in this way,” Cashman told IDN. “All this is letting them combine fields and sources across different data sets to create a ‘virtual entity’ of a customer, amassed from all the different customer records.”
Other QueCloud features include:
· A simple UI designed to allow business users to employ cloud integration
· Data for customer, product, vendor, HR and financial information can be aligned easily and automatically across multiple sources.
· Tools for data governance, including data dictionary, data quality and data integration
· Can scale to meet demands of largest enterprise
· Maintains consistency between data across multiple applications using automated data synchronization.
Queplix Solution for NetSuite’s SuiteCloud
Queplix’s Virtual Data Manager (VDM) SuiteApp for NetSuite’s SuiteCloud, available now, automates integration between NetSuite and on-premise apps or other SaaS services. Queplix’s SuiteApp quickly integrates NetSuite’s SuiteCloud SaaS applications for accounting, ERP, CRM and e-commerce, as well as cloud-based tools and infrastructure.
Core Queplix technologies also lay at the heart of the Queplix SuiteApp for NetSuite’s SuiteCloud. Notably, NetSuite engineers notice a convergence between Queplix’ approach and the underlying NetSuite’s data virtualization architecture for cloud.
“Queplix is built using some of the same principles as NetSuite -- ease and speed of deployment, a rich user experience, and the flexibility of a cloud-based approach,” said Guido Haarmans, NetSuite’s vice president for developer programs and business development. In specific, NetSuite harmonizes data to maintain user interface consistency, and it lets NetSuite customers use their existing security models, he added.

Queplix Launches Cloud Service to Integrate Cloud Systems - http://bit.ly/lUFLzd
eWEEK posted the following article recently:
Queplix Launches Cloud Service to Integrate Cloud Systems
The company launched a service called QueCloud, which is a cloud application that securely integrates—you guessed it—cloud applications, such as Salesforce, NetSuite, and LinkedIn.
Before long, we'll be able to get any type of IT service through a cloud-based connection. In fact, we're virtually at that point now—and modern-era cloud services are still only toddlers at 5 years old or less.
Data integration and management software maker Queplix, a relatively new name in the cloud scene, is a good example of where all this is going.
The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company has launched a service called QueCloud, which is a cloud application that securely integrates—you guessed it—cloud applications, such as Salesforce, NetSuite, LinkedIn and Facebook, to their systems without needing an IT person to write scripts.
"Our mission is to turn capex [costs] into opex," Queplix CEO Mark Cashman told eWEEK. "We can take the data from cloud-based applications or even on-premise apps, because we have a persistent metadata storage. We don't physically retain a copy of the data itself; we are just capable of moving it from Point A to Point B using something we call Data Harmonization, our own automated data-synchronization process.
"We don't care where your data exists; we're providing you with a wonderful object-oriented user interface which allows you to move your data without having to program SQL and write scripts to do that. And the data resides with the application or the supporting database for that application."
Configures Intelligent Blades
Queplix Virtual Data Manager, the company's flagship product, runs the QueCloud application and data-integration process. The software enables the configuration of a series of intelligent Application Software Blades that identify and extract key data and associated security information from many different target applications, such as Salesforce, Google Apps, Amazon and others.
The blades identify and extract metadata from the data stored within these applications, then bring it into the Queplix Engine to support data integration with other applications, Cashman said.
Once applications are integrated, QueCloud then keeps customer, product and financial data consistent between applications—even legacy applications, such as SAP PeopleSoft—with what Queplix calls Data Harmonization, its own automated data-synchronization process, Cashman said. QueCloud can scale up to the largest enterprise, or more cost effectively for small or medium businesses, he said.
QueCloud, which was introduced May 8 at NetSuite's SuiteWorld in San Francisco, is available now.
Queplix, founded in 2004 as a database tools provider but reset in 2009 to do virtualization services, has customers that include The Home Depot, Homesite and Sony Ericsson.

MDM and the Big Bang - http://bit.ly/eOjIlN
Author: Michael Zuckerman, CMO, Queplix
Perhaps the biggest problem to consume organizations over the past few years was to target the implementation of MDM as the Big Bang deliverable. The Big Bang deliverable is any MDM project where the goal of the project is the total integration of all consuming operational systems by one date. I am personally not aware of a single project where this goal was achieved without delay for one reason or another. Not one. I visit many accounts and I always ask the question and I almost always get the same answer. I’m not asking for the formal reference and the customer story that the vendor worked with a star customer or two. I am asking members on various project teams about their perceptions. Given the multi-year nature of the current MDM paradigm, the delay or slip in reaching the Big Bang delivery was typical. This left many project teams holding the reins on an expensive and challenged project at a time, in 2009, when most organizations were focusing even more on economic efficiency and incremental, successful product delivery.
The challenge of the big bang was evident even a few years ago. Vendors and the community at large tried to segment and differentiate the project down to more manageable components. The most successful projects that surfaced were to align the activities by customer and product. Product information management (the catalog) and customer information management emerged. Unfortunately, vendors went down various paths that have now resulted in different systems and even technologies to address these situations. Some have tried to build the product catalog into a bigger application. This additional complexity and differentiation, although scope has been reduced, just seems to give implementing organizations an opportunity to experience the big bang twice. They are both still complex, both global in implementation, and both difficult. The risk is still considerable.
Of course, two different projects run the risk of new challenges. Now you have two different systems, with potentially two varying architectures, two sets of administration, two sets of consultants – pretty much two sets of everything. Think about it. Now you also have the need, potentially, for multiple and potentially disparate integrations to the same systems for two different process integrations. In some ways it makes more sense, and in some ways even less sense. The systems used should probably be the same. There needs to be scalable components. But perhaps the segmentation globally by product and by customer does not really solve the organizational problem best without a common architecture.
The Big Bang remains contrary to all that we have learned from experience. The very nature of software development has moved towards iterative development – that of smaller and even smaller components of rapidly prototyped functionality delivery.
Today most development projects try to build code in “Agile®” slices, with rapid iterative development and prototyping. The smaller the deliverable the better and more predictable the results. Yet MDM implementation teams took most of the most complex processes and integrations possible. The project teams wrapped this up with single-minded and all-encompassing deliverables. Every place in software development, the goal is to eliminate the big bang in software deliverables. The paradigm for MDM often remains in sharp contrast to this.
Conceptually, to the user community, the endpoint is really what they perceive as the only value point. The meaningful deliverable is the endpoint because that is where most of the return on investment sits—not all of it, but most of it. Yes, you can get some data quality benefits before the project is complete. Yes, depending on your architecture you can get the benefits of operational system alignment. But that does not justify the millions spent. Your senior management team and global organization is really only focused on the complete integration and synchronization of data as a successful endpoint. They want the right data propagated the right way in all of their key operational systems. They want all data in repositories where they can learn from it using business intelligence tools. Anything less won’t measure up as success.

QueCloud Video - Introduction to the Industry's First Data Integration and Data Management Cloud - http://bit.ly/mBsuhS
Finding a way to integrate cloud applications and data poses a major challenge for companies who want to
make their systems work together for important business functions such as
customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP).
QueCloud from Queplix™ Corp . offers a
highly automated, turnkey solution that allows them to spend their project
dollars more wisely by avoiding long service engagements, manual processes, and
the constant wholesale movement of entire data sets.
In this video, Michael Zuckerman, chief marketing officer for
Queplix, provides an introductory overview of QueCloud, the first data
integration and data management cloud. QueCloud leverages the powerful
architecture of Queplix Virtual Data Manager™, the company's flagship product which drives the
application and data integration process. QueCloud enables the configuration of
a series of intelligent Application Software Blades™ that identify and extract key data and associated
security information from many different target applications such as Salesforce® (NYSE:
CRM), Google® (NASDAQ: GOOG), and others. The blades identify and
extract key metadata and associated security information from the data stored
within these applications, then bring it into the Queplix Engine to support
data integration with other applications.
Once applications are integrated, QueCloud keeps critical customer, product and financial data
consistent between applications with Data Harmonization™ an automated data synchronization process. QueCloud can scale up to the largest enterprise, or more cost effectively for small or medium
businesses. Legacy on-premise applications such as SAP®, PeopleSoft® and others
can be integrated just as quickly and easily. And because no SQL programming is
required, QueCloud places more control in the hands of the business user,
further eliminating unnecessary complexity for companies large or small.

Queplix Announces Data Virtualization Suiteapp For Netsuite's Suitecloudcomputing Platform - http://bit.ly/ipPLWx
Queplix Announces Data Virtualization Suiteapp For Netsuite's Suitecloudcomputing Platform
New SuiteApp Can Help NetSuite Customers Gain Rapid ROI by Reducing Data Management Costs Significantly - http://bit.ly/ipPLWx
Queplix Corp., a leader in data integration and data management, today announced the Virtual Data Manager SuiteApp for the NetSuite SuiteCloud Computing Platform. Queplix Virtual Data Manager automates the process of integrating enterprise applications. Built using NetSuite’s SuiteCloud development platform, the SuiteApp can help NetSuite customers connect to any non-NetSuite enterprise applications in a matter of days or even hours. This can cut implementation costs significantly and deliver rapid return on investment (ROI).
The announcement was made today at SuiteWorld 2011, NetSuite’s inaugural conference designed for NetSuite customers, solution providers, independent software providers, developers and system integrators. SuiteWorld 2011 is being held in San Francisco.
NetSuite’s SuiteCloud is a comprehensive offering of on-demand products, development tools, and services designed to help customers and commercial software developers take advantage of the significant economic benefits of cloud computing. The complete SuiteCloud offering includes NetSuite’s multi-tenant, always-on SaaS infrastructure; the NetSuite Business Suite of applications for Accounting/ERP, CRM and Ecommerce; and comprehensive development tools to create on-demand business applications on top of NetSuite.
"Integrating systems such as Netsuite with other enterprise applications and data is essential for optimizing important business functions,” says Mark Cashman, CEO of Queplix. “But with legacy tools, the process can be complex and costly. Queplix makes it simpler and less costly, so users get the greatest business value by consistently working with the most up-to-date enterprise information."
Queplix Virtual Data Manager is designed for the business user - no SQL programming is needed. The architecture includes a series of intelligent Application Software Blades that identify and extract key metadata and associated security information from target applications and move it to the Queplix persistent metadata catalog. Once integrated, data remains easily accessible to any number of additional applications, enabling a high degree of flexibility and scalability.
Working with NetSuite
The SuiteApp lets NetSuite customers eliminate the need for cumbersome wire diagrams connecting small pictures of relational database tables to integrate with enterprise applications. The NetSuite application harmonizes data to maintain user interface consistency, and it lets NetSuite customers use their existing security models, without any changes. As a result, they can get substantial cost reductions over legacy integration methods, and rapid ROI – plus access to fresh data from across the enterprise.
"With Queplix, our customers can focus on high level integration functions and issues that drive their businesses forward,” says Guido Haarmans, Vice President Developer Programs and Business Development at NetSuite. "Queplix is built using some of the same principles as NetSuite - ease and speed of deployment, a rich user experience, and the flexibility of a cloud-based approach. This can be especially valuable in larger enterprises that have complex or fragmented legacy applications and Queplix fits well in NetSuite’s two-tier ERP strategy.”

Agile BI and Data Virtualization - http://bit.ly/hrbsim
In this video, Queplix chief marketing officer Michael Zuckerman discusses how data virtualization enables organizations to gain instant access to data and dramatically faster data warehouse construction to achieve "agile" BI.
Data is everywhere, and businesses need the ability to understand the structure of their data, and they need the ability to connect to it and use it.
But the complex processes behind business intelligence today make BI hard work. It involves multiple meetings, long discussions, use of various tools and ultimately data is moved into a data mart or warehouse, or into the domain of the BI pool before useful reports can be produced.
Advanced data virtualization creates a direct link to the data structure and the underlying data, allowing users to immediately see any data in Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase or IBM-DB2. With the ability to see into multiple systems such as SalesForce, NetSuite, Google, LinkedIn, and many others, and create a direct connection to applications and the underlying data, users can much more easily build out their BI applications.
Queplix is a leader in data integration and data management. The powerful architecture of the Queplix Virtual Data Manager™, the company's flagship product which drives the application and data integration process, includes a series of intelligent Application Software Blades™ that identify and extract key data and associated security information from many different target applications such as Oracle SCM (ORCL: NASDAQ), Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), and others. The blades identify and extract key metadata and associated security information from the data stored within these applications, then bring it into the Queplix Engine to support data integration with other applications.

The Queplix solution reduces the lifecycle total cost of ownership for data management deployment by up to 80 percent or more, as compared to traditional ETL data management tools. Queplix will showcase QueCloud and its advanced data virtualization technology at NetSuite's SuiteWorld, held May 8-12 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in San Francisco. QueCloud is the company’s first cloud-based platform and it expands the Queplix product line which already includes on-premise products such as Virtual Data Manager™.

"Finding a way to integrate cloud applications and data poses a major challenge for companies who want to make their systems work together for important business functions such as customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP)," said Michael Zuckerman, chief marketing officer, Queplix. "QueCloud offers a highly automated, turnkey solution that allows them to spend their project dollars more wisely by avoiding long service engagements, manual processes, and the constant wholesale movement of entire data sets."
Zuckerman continued, “QueCloud integration is automated, fast and easy. Our Application Software Blades™ provide automatic connection to data sources, then data virtualization brings all of the structure of the data sources into the system instantly. The entire data integration process simply involves checking off boxes to align the data and the business rules you want to use. From that point on, our automation takes over to keep the data harmonized. There is no coding, no SQL and none of the complex widgets and wire diagrams that are typical of ETL technology.”
QueCloud leverages the powerful architecture of Queplix Virtual Data Manager™, the company's flagship product which drives the application and data integration process. QueCloud enables the configuration of a series of intelligent Application Software Blades™ that identify and extract key data and associated security information from many different target applications such as Salesforce® (NYSE: CRM), Google® (NASDAQ: GOOG), and others. The blades identify and extract key metadata and associated security information from the data stored within these applications, then bring it into the Queplix Engine to support data integration with other applications.
Once applications are integrated, QueCloud keeps critical customer, product and financial data consistent between applications with Data Harmonization™, an automated data synchronization process. QueCloud can scale up to the largest enterprise, or more cost effectively for small or medium businesses. Legacy on-premise applications such as SAP®, PeopleSoft® and others can be integrated just as quickly and easily. And because no SQL programming is required, QueCloud places more control in the hands of the business user, further eliminating unnecessary complexity for companies large or small.

Search Data Management posted the following article recently:
Dell this week released a fresh update to its recently acquired Boomi AtomSphere SaaS integration suite, but at least two companies will not be using the product anytime soon.
Carl Wright, vice president of sales with storage area network firm Coraid, and Nick Strong, an associate IT consultant with Appirio Inc., a cloud-based applications provider, independently evaluated older versions of Dell Boomi and decided that it was too complex and time-consuming for their integration needs. They ultimately chose competing products and currently have no plans to look back.
"[Coraid] originally tried to use Boomi to create a connector between [NetSuite and Salesforce.com] and, frankly, it was cumbersome and uneconomical and, quite frankly, we couldn't get it to work properly," said Wright, who has a background in information technology. "It was a one-to-one connector between fields and tables, and you had to basically orchestrate the whole thing yourself."
Dell acquired Boomi last November as part of an ongoing push to enhance its cloud computing portfolio. Some of the other cloud vendors Dell has acquired include infrastructure providers Scalent Systems Inc., DynamicOps Inc. and Joyent Inc. The Dell Boomi offering allows users to, among other things, transfer data between cloud and on-premises applications.
The spring update to Boomi AtomSphere includes new enhancements such as change data capture capabilities, which reduce the size of data sets being processed; large data processing capabilities, which help users automate the data integration process; and a new application program interface (API) that allows third-party monitoring tools to keep an eye on AtomSphere integration activity. Pricing for the suite starts at $500 per month, according to Dell.
Appirio's Strong, who evaluated Boomi about three months ago, said he felt the low initial starting price for the suite was attractive but later decided that it failed to deliver enough value for the money.
"When you get a basic license from them, they restrict it to where you can only connect to like two or three data sources," Strong said. "It won't let you connect to any more."
Dell Boomi versus the alternatives
Redwood City, Calif.-based Coraid first evaluated Boomi about three years ago, after the company began using Salesforce.com for its customer relationship management (CRM) needs. Founded in 2002, Coraid initially ran its CRM operations on NetSuite, but eventually decided that Saleforce.com was a better fit for sales and marketing operations.
"We ended up with really two enterprise CRMs, each with the notion of 'customer' in it, and NetSuite was the system of record for most of that data," Wright said. "But [we needed] a lot of the entitlement things, such as support and maintenance contracts and things like that, inside of Salesforce in order to facilitate [some] customer interactions."
Coraid needed to get Salesforce and NetSuite to play nicely together and started looking at technologies that could make it happen. Salesforce recommended Boomi, but Coraid found it too complex. The company eventually decided that data virtualization technology from Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Queplix Corp. was the right choice for the job.
"Today, all of our workflows are facilitated real time between NetSuite and Salesforce using the Queplix data virtualization tool," he said. "It creates a global metadata catalog."
Queplix says its products help users securely integrate, deploy and manage cloud and on-premises applications with no programming or SQL knowledge required.
"In the process of crawling our database repositories, Queplix identified a ton of inconsistencies," Wright said. "We had thousands and thousands of records with a little over 250 that were not correct, and it allowed us to fix them easily."
